Advice wanted…

Ok so sleep training…..

It’s going well. It’s been a week and a half and he goes down most nap/nights with no fuss and if there is its under 3 minutes.

My problem is he wakes a lot. Usually around 11 and I go in and pop in his binki and he out, then again at 1 and I’ll nurse tho I know he doesn’t needed it. I do it just to get him to go back to sleep with hopes he’ll stay asleep longer. Then he wakes again around 2 or 3 and I give him his binki. Sometimes he goes back to sleep and sometime I have to let him cry it out which last about 20 minutes or less. He may make it to 6 or 7 but sometimes he cries again at 5 and I just bring him to bed to get a couple more hours.

My question is. Is he too little to stop going in and let him start self soothing a little bit or should I continue to go in every time he starts to get really upset? Help?! I need sleep!

Baby boy pulled himself up on the bathtub today and I found him standing in his crib. Why is this happening so fast? Slow down I’m trying to savior the last baby moments in my life.

Sleep Training (or desperation)

Monday morning I woke up not feeling 100%, and as the day went on it only got worse. By that evening I had a full blown cold, and wouldn’t ya know hubby headed outta town that afternoon for business.

The boys and I went through our usual bedtime routine. Everything was going smoothly until Finnigan decided he wanted to be restless and whiney and unsettled. Nothing I did would please him. I wrestled with him for about an hour but I was literally sick and tired and my help was gone. As a last resort I went and put him in his crib just to give myself a break.

I have never been a cry it out momma. I couldn’t stand hearing those pitiful cries coming from the other room, which is why I think my other two slept with me until they were 18 months old. But hearing the crying this time was no worse than wrestling with him in that moment.

I did the usual check back in 5 and stay no longer than a minute. Then again in 10 minutes and so on. At the 45 minute mark he was still screaming. I almost gave in. I thought to myself I haven’t wasted these 45 minutes for nothing, so I waited it out. He finally fell asleep a little after an hour. He woke up twice during the night, but all he needed was a binki and a pat on the butt.

Night two he only screamed for 15 minutes and woke up once at one for a binki and butt pat and again to nurse at two. I wouldn’t have nursed him had he not nursed good before bed so I knew he was probably hungry.

Night three, tonight, he cried for under two minutes. I went in to check after five and he was out like a light. Now to get him sleeping through the night again!

Go Finn go

Finn has been trying to crawl for going on a week now. He’s been up on all fours rocking, then collapses back down. Yesterday night at Lochlan’s soccer game he moved one leg forward and the laid back on his belly.

I’d been trying all morning to get him to move his legs. Offering toys he seemed interested in, at a far enough distance he had to move for, all resulting in a belly flop forward.

Finally I sat him on the bathmat while I took a shower. He wound up in crawl position and started pushing himself backward. He kept going farther and farther back until he reached the door. He was pissed. He was screaming his maddest come get me mom scream. (Too bad buddy I’m showering). I watched him as it clicked in his little brain. And just like that he was off, one leg forward then a hand. Then he moved the other leg and the hand and just like that he was all the way back to the bathmat with a new title: crawler.

One day shy of 7 months and crawling. Go Finn go!!!! Now where did I put all those baby gates?!?!

Froggie business

This afternoon while playing outside, a little baby frog jumped out of he grass. I encouraged the boys to pick it up, but to be soft. Finally, Lochlan got up the courage to pick him up and cupped him in his hand. “Where should I put him?” he asked. Why don’t you put him on the driveway and watch him hop. “I think I’ll put him in the trunk of Hudson’s bike”. As he approached the bike I think the frog gave a little hop in his hand and Lochlan let out a little squeal. With in a foot of the bike the frog started wiggling a lot in his hand and he screamed as loud as he could in his highest pitch, which made Hudson scream too. This made Lochlan throw the frog as far in the air as he could, out of fright. I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. The frog survived the fall. Lochlan then got down on all fours and told the frog to follow him to the backyard to be with his mommy and daddy (two bigger frogs we found earlier in the week).

I’m telling you what, these day to day adventures fill my heart with joy. I just want to be able to remember them all. This one was worth writing down.
